“Great product with some major flaws” 2010-01-20
By Stephen J. Michael
I use this with my new (Nov 2009) MacBook Pro laptop.

The good:
It is bluetooth and works well with the laptop.

The keyboard works well running Windows 7 under VMware.

It is very small and can travel well.

It looks very nice.

The bad:
Battery life can suck bad. Under certain “normal” conditions the batter in mine will last only 2 days. I think this is because The keyboard is trying to connect to other bluetooth devices around me, but I am not sure. This point alone make the keyboard almost worthless to me.

The size: Yes it is small and it travels well, but I program and this keyboard sucks for development.

So this is a weird one to scale. If you just want a portable keyboard to protect the surface of your laptop, and you travel a lot, then this is a good choice. Just watch out for battery drain, or remove the batteries when not using. However, if you want a keyboard that is a full time keyboard to do serious work on then this keyboard would get a 2 star or even a 1 star review.

I really like this keyboard. I not very Apple savvy so I had to call Apple support. (1-800-my-apple). For setting up your keyboard I would advise you to go to this link [...] You also need to up grade your software to “Combo”
You can find this link by going to Google search and type in 10.6.2 combo update. 5 Stars all the way

“Wasn’t prepared to like this as much as I do” 2010-01-08
By H. Murchison (Bothell, WA United States)

I kind of went out on a limb here with this keyboard. I’m a fan of numeric keypads for number entry and I didn’t know if I could live without those faithful 10-keys over to the right. The problem was I’m growing frustrated with the cable clutter that has made moving my computer around a pain in the rear.

I decided I’d try to get a wireless keyboard. My first search was to look at Logitech and even Microsoft for options but neither had a keyboard that was in the price range that I wanted and had the size that I wanted (small). I decided to shell out of the Apple BT keyboard after buying my girlfriend the USB version with the numpad.

The “chiclet” keyboard takes only a short time to get used to and once you have it down it’s not a problem at all. Those of you with a recent Macbook already know what the keys feel like. Here’s the bonus I never saw coming. This keyboard is so much quieter to type on than any keyboard I’ve owned prior. As I type this the sound coming from the keyboard is muted and not obnoxious. My gf is so happy that I’ve replaced the noisier white USB Apple KB of a few year ago.

Battery life is good. The BT keyboard goes to sleep when not in use to conserve battery power. The keyboard is small but not so small that average hands will feel too cramped. This isn’t a Netbook keyboard folks.

I’m learning to live without the numpad but frankly getting desktop space back and quiet has made this purchase something that I should have done a while ago. Next up will be replacing my Logitech mouse with a Magic Mouse + 3rd party software to add more gestures. That’s two USB ports freed up and no longer the need to keep the Logitech cradle in my surge protector.

The Apple BT keyboard may not be for everyone but if you’re borderline and a fence sitter try it out in a store and see what you think. You too may want to cut the chord sooner rather than later.

By M. Wayne (Virginia USA)
We have recently started the switch in our office from PC to Mac. This was the 4th Apple Wireless Keyboard purchased, over the past 9 months. We’ve all been very happy with it’s performance, connectivity, appearance, etc. We highly recommend this product…both for Mac desktops and Macbooks.

“Works terrific with Windows too!!” 2009-12-31
By Roger J. Buffington (Huntington Beach, CA United States)
I love Apple products, but must run a Windows 7 system for professional reasons. I greatly envied my daughter’s Apple keyboard, and a Bing search indicated that the Apple keyboard would work fine with Windows. Well, it does. There are a few Windows specific keys missing, and a few Mac specific keys that don’t do much on this keykboard, but really all the keys that almost all Windows users will want are right here. The keyboard installed on my desktop Windows machine in seconds as a Bluetooth device, and works flawlessly. I had no setup issues whatever. None.

The keyboard itself is a beautiful, minimalist device, but nonetheless constitutes a full-sized keyboard, albeit without the numeric pad. Despite the fact that I am a power touch typist, I have never once used the numeric pad on any keyboard, so I appreciate the notion of giving up the numeric pad in exchange for having a smaller device on the desktop. Not everyone will agree, of course. Also missing are the delete key and the printscreen key. I admit that I miss the delete key, but the destructive backspace key is an adequate substitute.

The keyboard seems to be just the right size for my hands (I am not a big guy) and although it is not one of the curved “ergonomic” keyboards, I find myself quite comfortable typing continuously with this keyboard. The keys themselves have a nice solid feel; most typists will like the feel of these keys.

I like the fact that this keyboard uses readily-available AA batteries. It shuts off when not in use, and springs to life instantly upon the touch of a key. Very good design.

Highly recommended for anyone who does not mind eschewing the numeric keypad, the delete key and printscreen. RJB.

Works as an everyday keyboard and then easily converts to perfect set up for games. I wouldn’t recommend any other keyboard. Ideazon hit the mark on this one!

“Great With Minor annoyance” 2006-07-10
By Joshua J. Laubach (Allentown, Pa USA)
When I got this keyset along with my zboard, I was exstatic. It is a great help with bf2. As for its similarity to the generic keyset, I find the labeled keys make it easier to remember.

My Issues with the keyset are:

1. The key labeled “Battle Com” registers as “v”, the key for commanders to speak with squadleaders and squadleaders with commanders. What is a regular grunt like me to do? Change the command in BF2 of course. Just a pain in the neck.

2. It sorta sucks trying to go prone and crouch, at least for a little while as you learn to use it.

Overall a great product.

“Zboard and BF2 keyset. A must for any regular BF2 player!” 2006-04-01
By Mr. D. P. Wingett (UK)
Straight out of the box the zboard didn’t feel as good quality as the keyboard it was replacing, however it was replacing a high-end MS item. I would say it is on a par with the keyboard I use at work, if not a bit more ‘Clacky’, but up against my son’s budget keyboard it feels a whole lot better!

I’m not a pro-gamer but more of just a regular BF2 player, and have been looking for a dedicated gaming keyboard for a few years erversince first playing CS. I even painted up and old keyboard and stripped out the unneeded keys once to make an easier to use gaming keyboard. So when I laid eyes on the Zboard it was a ‘must’ to get.

The normal Zboard keyset has all the normal keys where you would expect to find them and there are many extra little functions you can set up using the software provided. Changing the keyset can be done in under a minute just by unclipping the old and clipping in the new one then clicking the keyset refresh button in the system tray.

I found using the standard gaming keyset with BF2 awkward when trying to get a good prone / crouch setup that was comfortable and easy to use. It did not help that the control setup in the BF2 game seemed to not want to allow the combinations I required. I even stopped playing on ranked servers for a week as I was getting badly owned while getting used to the new keys.

However on receipt of the dedicated BF2 keyset it has all changed! After slipping the keyset in and firing up BF2 and returning the key layout in the BF2 controls back to default all the controls feel well laid out and intuitive to use. I will probably now start to use some of the controls that I have not used before as it looks as if there are a few to use in the commander’s screen that will make life easier.

Pros:

*Easy to change keyset, under a minute. No pulling ps2 / usb wires out, fiddling around at the back of the pc.

*Very intuative layout has made playing BF2 with the dediacted keyset a dream.

*Two USB ports in back of keyboard.

Cons:

*I have found that sometimes the keyset does not refresh properly on a change This maybe me being impatient, or maybe it just doesn’t register. A shut down and restart always resolves but is a pain in the neck. Maybe I’m not doing it right! LOL!

*It can be hard to type messages in game as half the letter keys are in weird places!

*Split spacebar in normal keyset can be a pain until you get used to it.

*There is no scroll lock button on BF2 keyset, so X-Fire users will not be able to respond to incoming messages in game unless they ALT+TAB out of the game and back to the desktop.

*When using a thumbstick in USB port in the back of the keyboard, I received an error saying the hub didn’t have enough power. I don’t know if that is the hub in the keyboard, or on the motherboard.

Conclusion:

On the whole I think for me the whole lot was a good investment once I had the BF2 keyset installed. If I start playing any other FPS games, I will certainly look out for a keyset for that game, too.

For me it has made an already great gaming experience even better.

“I love its small footprint and nice response” 2010-01-13
By Dr. M. Dixon (Tucson, AZ USA)
I have been looking for a keyboard and mouse that would fit on the pull-out desktray in my home office built-ins. As soon as I saw this setup, I thought here’s a solution that will work. I am very happy that not only was I able to easily fit the keyboard and mouse on my pull-out tray but I am very impressed with the quality. I am a fast typist (120 wpm) and I may be hard on keyboards as I usually wear off the letters which always elicits comments from others! I like the response of both the keyboard and the mouse. I also had been getting some carpal tunnel pain with my old mouse but this one seems to have a more natural feel in my hand. Also, this mouse is more responsive than my old wired one which took some getting used to but in the long run means less work on my part! You have to adore anything that does your work for you! : ) I miss the volume keys on my old keyboard so I have ordered the media center option available on amazon Kensington SlimBlade Media Remote Control K72320US.

the number pad does not include the Alt-nnnn function needed to enter special characters. On a normal number pad on a keyboard entering alt + 0176 will produce the ° character, with number lock on. It produces nothing with this number pad.

Setup was a breeze; the most difficult part was locating the usb dongle which I thought was missing but they have it designed to transport within the mouse!

There are some nice hotkeys for PC – eject, default media player launch, backup, gadgets, search & organize which I enjoy; they require download of a driver from the kensington website.

The instruction guide says line of sight is required for USB dongle but I stuck mine in the back of my pc and it is working great.

I feel I got much more than I was looking for. Although I miss alt-0-1-7-6 and volume keys, I am very happy with the quality and everything else about this purchase.

“Great Keyboard” 2010-01-07
By A. Kelling
Love the keyboard. Very responsive keys (I am a fast typer) and quiet. Very well-constructed, solid and still a slim, sleek design. Saves space – leaves room for mouse!!!! which is the real reason I bought this key board. No cords to mess with and USB works nicely – even when plugged into my docking station – behind the computer. Like the detachable number pad but won’t use it often. Didn’t try the mouse – already have one I like. Highly recommend this keyboard.

“Almost… but Sheesh” 2009-12-06
By L. Apple (Flagstaff, AZ)
Keyboard and numberpad are a 5, the mouse is a 1 – giving us the 3 rating I’m putting down.

The keyboard feels substantial and I like the laptop like keys. I was happy to find that the number pad does not need to be connected to the keyboard to work. I was hoping it was because I like the idea of keeping the number pad up by my calculator and having it on the desk top when doing accounting entries – but having the smaller keyboard on my keyboard tray allows enough room for my mouse to travel there – even across two displays.

However, the mouse SUCKS. It doesn’t track well on anything, and mine keeps kinda getting a mind of it’s own and moving the cursor around and skipping all over the place. Making it impossible to use. I’ve unplugged it, reset it, etc. numerous times – and that sometimes helps for a few seconds – but it doesn’t last. I don’t know if it’s interference or what – but don”t have any more ideas of how to fix it. I do plan to contact Kennsington and Amazon and see what they’ll do – but my old keyboard kicked the bucket – so I’m not willing to send back BOTH in order to get a new mouse…

Frustrating.

“One of the best keyboards money can buy” 2009-11-18
By Christopher P. Tanger (Chicago, IL)

I think this is the best keyboard I’ve ever owned. It would be nice if they made a wired version.

Also, I don’t like the apple keys on it since they replace the windows menu key and displace the alt keys slightly.

Otherwise the keyboard layout is *exactly* the same as my laptop which is great for consistency. A very good layout for coding.

“Not worth the money” 2009-10-30
By kstudent22 (Washington)
First, I was very pleased with the shape and comfort of the keyboard and mouse. They both have a nice sleek design, but within a week of having the product I started having issues with the enter key getting stuck. This would cause the mouse indicator to continuously tab across the screen. I found that if I unplugged the reciever it would stop and everything would return back to normal so I dismissed it was a minor annoyance because I liked the flat sleak design or the keyboard so much. I personally dislike “ergonomic” keyboards and prefer flat keyboards similar to laptop design. That being said it didn’t happen that often, so I decided it wasn’t a big deal. Then one day about month after having the set the detachable number pad just stopped working. I tried new batteries and unplugging the reciever but nothing worked. So I contacted Amazon to exchange my set for the same type, I figured maybe mine was just defective. The new set worked just fine right out of the box…. but the next day the number pad had mysteriously died. It would seem that it was not my particular one that was defective but something with the product itself. I would not recommend this product to anyone, it is overpriced and doesn’t work.

“Looks great, works great, smaller than expected.” 2009-09-18
By Gabriel’s Buddy (Carrboro, NC USA)
We have our computer in a tight space and this allows us to use the mouse next to the keyboard.

The keyboard is a little smaller than normal so it takes some getting used to but, after you do so, it works great. It helps if you are right behind it and not off to the left or right even a little bit.

We use it on a desktop and appreciate the PS/2 connector in that it frees up a USB port. Even with six ports on the back, we’ve run out of them and this would look ugly coming out of one of the front ports. Of course, on a laptop you would need a USB keyboard and I believe this comes in that flavor as well.

It does what it supposed to and has worked well for us so far.

I got this keyboard to replace a Logitech Divino (which I paid full price for and just died on me in less than a year) and I’m pretty happy so far. First off, the size is very nice and doesn’t take up my whole desk. I have also been using a laptop for a while (and I use a laptop at work) so I am comfortable with the small layout. This is great for gaming because now I can have my mouse closer to the screen and not hanging off the edge of the desk. I also use a Belkin n52 speedpad, so I can have the n52 and the mouse equally spaced around the monitor without the keyboard getting in the way. I simply hate the number pad, who uses it anyway? This keyboard also has the multimedia keys which come in handle (especially the volume) and are a nice touch for a keyboard this size. Pressing the keys themselves feels fine although they don’t have as much tactile feedback as you get with a standard keyboard (like logitech’s models). It also works with the PS/2 cable so you don’t have to worry about lag or interference like you do with wireless keyboards (and no batteries either). The design is also clean and simple so its not a problem matching with other PC components.

There are a few annoying things, but its not so bad. First off, the “delete” key is in an unorthodox position. Instead of being on the upper-right (like every other keyboard, even on laptops) they have placed in on the bottom right next to the “left” arrow key. I use the arrow keys a lot (like to cycle through images) and a few times I pressed it and Windows was like “Do you want to delete this file?”. So annoying. They could have easily just put it in the top-right corner and ditched one of the obscure keys like “pause/break”. Seriously I don’t think I have touched the “pause/break” button since the DOS era. What does this key even do anymore? Another minor issue is that the keyboard is set at an angle (lifted in the back) and you can’t really adjust it. There are legs, but they only add a few millimeters so its the same deal either way. Also the build quality could be better, especially coming from the Divino. I’ve only had it for a week and it feels sturdy enough, but I don’t imagine its going to last as long as some other keyboards. For the price these issues are minor and I still like the keyboard a lot.

“Poor quality keyboard” 2009-04-26
By R. Johnson (SoCal, USA)
The only thing good about this keyboard is that it is short and gives you more room for using your mouse. But all I wanted was a standard layout keyboard without the numeric keypad. Instead, they made it very different from a standard keyboard. It is very much like a laptop keyboard. I don’t use laptops. It took months to get used to the new key layout. Also I very much dislike the low profile keys. It makes it harder to type. This keyboard is the least durable keyboard I have ever used in my life. Some of the letters rubbed off, and it didn’t take too long for that to start happening. Finally, the W key stopped working reliably so that I couldn’t play first person shooter games with it. This happened in less than a year of use. So I threw away the keyboard. I payed $27 for a piece of junk. That’s pretty high price for a piece of junk.

Why can’t somebody just make a good, standard keyboard without the numeric keypad? That’s all I want! Keyboards with the keypad are too darn long!

“Better than the Logitech MK 300″ 2010-01-21
By robgman (Anacortes, WA)
I had received the Logitech MK 300 (I think that’s the model number) wireless desktop and was very satisfied with its functionality. However, after about 3 months of owning it I dropped it about less than a foot onto a soft sofa and one of the little plastic legs that allows the keyboard to sit on a table at an angle making it ergonimcally better for typing broke off. Accordingly, the first thing I looked at when I opened this wireless desktop was those little plastic legs. It was immediately apparent to me that the legs with this keyboard are sturdier and of better quality than the Logitech.

The range, comfort of the keyboard and all the functions are standard and useful.

I’ve only been using this product for about a month but after 5 or 6 months I’ll update this review so it will be more comprehensive.

“Because it’s fun to use a mouse on the carpet.” 2010-01-21
By Fryfat (San Francisco, CA)
This is a huge upgrade over the old wireless mouse and keyboard combo I had, which would often miss clicks and had a weak range. No more. With the MS desktop 3000, every key is read the millisecond it’s pressed, just like a wired keyboard and mouse, but without the mess of wires. My desk looks great.

As you can expect form a membrane keyboard, they keys are quiet and a little mushy. However, even for a membrane keyboard, these keys seem ultra silent – like I could type a novel next to a sleeping baby. My only complaint is the F keys, I miss the days when I didn’t have to use “F-lock” to use them!

The mouse wheel feels a little loose, but other than that it works great on my desk and every other surface I’ve tried it on, including my jeans.

It’s a great wireless keyboard and mouse combo.

“Long time Mac user is very happy with Microsoft.” 2010-01-21
By Cannon (Ypsilanti, Mi)
This keyboard and mouse combo has to be one of the best I’ve ever used.

I want to start off letting you know that I have been a long time faithful Logitec consumer. When my last mouse from them went out however, I decided to look around. I had a mouse keyboard combo and would have just purchased a new mouse if it weren’t for the fact that it would have taken my second of three USB ports. When I started looking, I wanted a keyboard that would fit my need for compact, low-profile keys, quiet, and a more streamline, but unique design. The keyboard meets that and more.

First off, the keyboard has a great feel to it, and the keys, despite a few reviews, are very quiet. It feels like I’m typing on an ergonomic laptop. There are a ton of extra function keys that I haven’t bothered to program yet, but from what I’ve read it will be as easy as installing the keyboard was. I plugged the USB in, and it was rearing to go.

The USB dongle is very small and out of the way. And best of all it doesn’t emit any light, so all of you nocturnal users can rest at ease.

They mouse is the last piece to review, and it has a number of high points, but a small fault. First the bad, it is a little loud when you use the main left and right click. It is something I totally got over when I looked at the rest of it. The BlueTrack technology really makes it so that the moue can be used on just about every surface. The wheel is smooth, not loud and clunky like previous logitec mice. and the mouse comes with two extra side buttons. On the Mac they automatically set up for Dashboard and Show all Workspaces.

The whole deal was a great price, and if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely purchase this combo.

“Doesn’t work in XP Pro” 2010-01-15
By A. Schuette
Ordered two of these for some stations in an office comprised of XP Pro desktops. XP Pro does not recognize the transceiver, and Microsoft’s support site for the device is atrocious. While it works on our Win 7 machines, we will not be upgrading the XP Pro for the forseeable future due to application requirements. Since the Desktop works on the Win 7 machines I can’t return it, but I have my doubts about any other wireless transceivers for this environment.

“Five Stars for this Wireless Set!” 2010-01-14
By In the AmaZone…
I may have griped about some Microsoft products in the past, but the Wireless 3000 keyboard and mouse set is impressive. I’ve used other wireless sets (one of which I am still using with another computer), but this blows the competition out of the water. It’s idiot proof and user friendly to get started. Pop the batteries into the keyboard and mouse, plug the USB dongle (receiver) into the computer, and away you go.

The mouse is extremely comfortable and maneuverable but might be a little large for someone with small hands. Keys and commonly used buttons are positioned comfortably like (most) other full-sized keyboards, and there is a rubberized tilted hand rest, making typing easy. Additional control buttons line the left side and top of the keyboard -they’re there if you need them but out of the way if you don’t.
Layout and design are great. The keyboard offers more menu buttons than you can shake a stick at, even one for the calculator, along with buttons to control Explorer, Windows Media Player, speakers, etc. There’s also an indicator light for when the battery gets low. The 5-button mouse has easy-to-grip sides, slides effortlessly over any smooth dark surface, and responds well without being overly sensitive. Most impressive is the center scroll wheel that is the smoothest I have ever used, and the extra two buttons are placed so that while accessible, they are not in your way.

Good performance. A small USB device plugs directly into the computer (no wires or extensions), and both the mouse and keyboard work flawlessly at a distance of more than six feet from the computer while maintaining decent battery life. The USB receiver conveniently stores in a recess in the bottom of the mouse when not in use, so you don’t need to hunt through your notebook bag to find it.
It’s even stylish with a sleek black look.

Overall, I’m impressed -no gripes yet, and none expected. I’ll let you know, but for now I’d recommend it over others on the market. I did not use it on the Mac OS, but the box claims compatibility -I’d check additional reviews if you are a Mac user.
